Emergency funding request: woman with multiple cancers needs your help

***Update***: Thanks to our amazing supporters, we were able to raise the $1750 Sophia* needs in order to safely terminate her pregnancy. Thanks to each and every one of you for donating, spreading the word, and making abortion a reality for Sophia and all the women we help.

We just learned of a young woman in a terrible situation.

Sophia* is currently undergoing chemotherapy and is being treated for several different cancers. She was told she couldn’t get pregnant while on chemo, and her pregnancy was just discovered at an advanced gestational age. Multiple severe anomalies were detected in the fetus that are incompatible with life. She has Medicare, which provides no abortion coverage even when medically indicated.

Sophia managed to get to the one clinic in the country that will be able to perform her abortion, and has a place to stay while she’s there. But the abortion itself will cost over $12,000.  Her financial need far exceeds the capacity of NYAAF to help, and so we are emailing to ask if you can make an emergency contribution so that she can safely terminate her pregnancy.

Thanks to the generosity of the clinic and several other funds, right now Sophia has a gap of $1750 to fill in order to be able to get the abortion. She has turned to NYAAF, desperate for help to raise the funds she needs.

It is clear that this young woman deserves our funding, yet $1750 is ten times our average grant amount. We are turning to you today to request an emergency contribution to help this woman terminate this pregnancy that poses serious risk to her health.

If possible, please provide your support in either of two ways:
1) Make an immediate donation by credit card by clicking here.
2) Email nyaaf@nnaf.org with the amount of your pledge and then send us a check. Mail to NYAAF, FDR Station, Box 7569, New York, NY 10150.

Thank you so much for your consideration.

Best,
Maureen Stutzman and Jasmine Nielsen
