How You Can Help

1. Make a donation!

NYAAF is an all-volunteer organization, which means that 100% of your tax-deductible contribution goes directly to those in need. Even small amounts can make a huge difference in the lives of people we help. Give online now!

2. Apply to be a case manager and join our next training

NYAAF is hosting a remote two-day volunteer case manager training on Saturday, 1/27 and Sunday, 1/28 from 10 am-4 pm each day.

NYAAF case managers (CMs) are dedicated volunteers who help manage our intake helpline and work directly with our clients to ensure they have the funds they need to access the care they deserve. CMs volunteer remotely in week-long shifts (Sunday – Saturday) on one of our four lines (NYC, Greater NY, Outside NY State, and the Spanish line). During that week, CMs should have a schedule that allows them to be flexible in answering or following up with calls. On average a CM volunteers about two-four hours per day during an Intake week, but this can vary based on the volume of calls. Responsibilities include: checking our helpline 3x daily, calling clients, recording case notes, sending pledges to clinics, and communicating with the NYAAF board about pledges.

Apply to join our case manager training. Applications close at 9 am on Monday, 1/8.

3. Volunteer for NYAAF

We’re also always looking for volunteers to help with the following tasks:

  • Write content for us: direct mail, thank you letters, blog posts
  • Be a host or a co-host of a fundraising event to support NYAAF
  • Spruce up our website and online presence
  • Guide us on legal issues
  • Stuff envelopes for our bi-annual fundraising mailings

Think you could help? Email us at with “Volunteer” in the subject line to tell us why you think you’d be a great volunteer.

3. Join the Board

NYAAF is not currently recruiting new board members, but when we do, we will post here!

4. Host an event to raise money for NYAAF

Play in a band that wants to throw a charity show? Work at a museum that wants to host a special tour? Live in a beautiful apartment and want to have people over? Have no connections but think you have what it takes to organize a successful event? Great!

One of the main ways we’re looking for support is through volunteers hosting autonomous fundraisers tapping into their own community members as a site of resource mobilization. Our Fundraiser Guide can support your planning process!

You can send us an email to (subject line: “Events”) with your idea. And thank you!
