NYAAF Executive Director: “No matter what the courts say — Abortion is still ours.”
Dear Friend,
We warned you the worst wasn’t behind us. This weekend, we were dealt the biggest blow to abortion access since the Dobbs decision overturned Roe v Wade nearly four years ago.
Then, just this morning, the Supreme Court temporarily restored access to Mifepristone without an in-person clinic visit through May 11, until the court more thoroughly reviews the case.
While we are grateful for this temporary action, our bodily autonomy should not be litigated. This direct attack on abortion via telehealth, or “abortion pills by mail,” is part of the larger coordinated effort to chip away at the remaining abortion access that does exist. I know this sounds scary, but I want to be clear that this is the next step in their ultimate goal: to instate a national abortion ban.
This case targets the most vulnerable abortion-seekers. Telehealth is often much less expensive and more accessible than in-clinic visits—particularly for people with disabilities, folks living in rural areas or with limited transportation options, parents without childcare, and for those who face a variety of other barriers to traveling to an in-person clinic. Telehealth also frees up appointments for those who need or choose to have in-person care. In all, this case aims to make it even harder to access abortion—especially in states with existing bans and restrictions.
This attack has already impacted NYAAF and our callers. Our callers remain confused about their options, and more people are needing help to find appointments.Chaos and confusion is their strategy. But I’m here to remind you:
YOU STILL HAVE OPTIONS!
You can still get abortion pills by mail! Because of the Supreme Court’s temporary order, Mifeprisone is now available via telehealth through at least May 11. Order abortion pills today via mail at plancpills.org
If Mifepristone is restricted again, some telehealth providers will begin prescribing Misoprostol only. You can learn more about the Misoprostol only method here.
Medication abortion using Mifepristone and Misoprostol, as well procedural abortion, is still available at in-person clinics across NY state. You can find an in-person clinic here: ineedana.org
You can get FREE medication abortion using Mifepristone and Misoprostol at four city-run Sexual Health Clinics across NYC in Morrisania, Central Harlem, Jamaica, and Fort Greene. All are welcome, regardless of age, citizenship, or residency (yes, that means non-NYC residents!) Learn more here.
